No Oil Drilling in the American Arctic

Alaska Arctic. Creative Commons: Bryan McLellan, 2011.

Oceana is working to obtain deferrals for 10,000 square miles of important ecological areas in the Arctic Ocean. Last year, Oceana and its allies prevented oil companies from drilling off the north coast of Alaska, setting a critical conservation precedent.

Oceana is an international organization focused solely on oceans, dedicated to achieving measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals.

Through collaborative partnerships, we support innovative projects that protect vulnerable wildlife from extinction, while restoring balance to threatened ecosystems and communities. Our work is divided into six main program areas – Wildlands Conservation, Oceans Conservation, Climate Change, Indigenous Rights, Transforming California, and Innovative Solutions.
